Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint in FL, USA
Hi all,
I'm Victoria, a 20-something year old student at St. John's River State College in Florida. I figured that my carbon footprint would be a little less than those in Florida because I live with just one other person in an average sized house. When we bought the house, we switched out nearly all of the incandescent lights to compact fluorescent lights and we started our own garden too. We tend to keep the house around 78 degrees for the six hottest months, using electric air conditioning and electric fans in the rooms we use most (the living room, bedroom, and patio). For the other months, we let the fans circulate the air for us. We seldomly need to heat the house, but when we do we use wood then bundle up! Even so, our home costs are still above average for other Floridians. I believe quite a bit of it has to do with leaving the blinds open during the day (which lets the sun in to heat up the house, making the air conditioner work more!) and from leaving our appliances plugged in all the time (mostly on standby, though.) Also, I tend to do housework during the h ottest parts of the day, which according to some articles causes the air conditioner to work even more!
As a result of my research, I will be more proactive at unplugging unused electronics and appliances, keeping the blinds closed during the hottest times of the day, changing my housework schedule to early in the morning or later in the evening, and continuing to use individual fans to better disperse the air from the electric air conditioner.
