Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Recycling

Recycling is a great and simple way to help the environment. My family did not use to recycle but we recently started a couple of years ago. Now we are one of the biggest recycling families in our neighborhood. Recycling will save you money and energy.  According to http://www2.epa.gov/recycle/recycling-basics, by recycling, you are reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change around the world. You are also preventing pollution, conserving Earth's natural resources, and sustaining life for future generations.

Recently, my neighborhood switched from only recycling certain kinds of plastic to single stream recycling, and I can tell it's made a big difference. Before, we would have to search on the bottoms of containers to see if the plastic was a one or a two, which most plastics we used weren't. Also, we had to have separate trash bags for paper, plastic, and metals. Now, we have one recycling bin for all three, which saves trash bags, and we don't have to worry about separating anything. We recycle a lot more now since we can recycle all types of plastic. I think recycling is a great thing, and I'm really glad I can recycle more now.

St Johns County FL has recently switched to single stream recycling and it has made a huge difference in our home and our neighborhood and I am certain in our entire community. The antiquated recycling bins we had been using were too small for the amount of recycling we actually generate! Homes that by all appearances had nothing to recycle now gladly put out their convenient big blue cans...hopefully made from recycled plastic.

Recycling is a very good idea and help environment. Paper may be used four times.

The recycling is a current theme in the world. One of the best idea in this moment is the electric cars. Another idea is the alternative energy.
