Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

transportation
Hi I`m Martina and I from Switzerland.
After I have calculated my carbon footprint I noticed that the transportation section was high and this because my family use much the car. In the first place I and my family go shopping in italy because is cheaper. In the second place I have parents in Croatia and for visit them I must go whit the car. I can go in Croatia whit airplane but it consume more CO2 of the car. Addition the car I and my sister use the transportation for move in our country and for go out with our friends since we live in different city. So for me is difficult reduce the Co2 in the transportation section but a few days ago I read an article that it saids that many people thought that for one days in a year you had to renounce at transportations. I think this is a good idea but for many people this would be difficult because we are a society that live addicted to technology and transportations are part of them.
I think that the holidays produce too CO2, but if we are careful in the year or in general we can permit them. This summer I went to Italy to the sea, I was in Jesolo.
I did not go only to the sea, because I have relatives in Italy, so we went with the car.
We produced a lot of CO2 and the journey was very long. But when we arrived in the country of my relatives, we only used the bicycle! To go around and to the supermarket. Also once went to sea at the campsite, we moved on foot.
So I think we have to balance the production of CO2 with the recycling of other materials. Another example are the public transport. When i go to school i oft utilise them, because in a bus there are many people who goes in the same place (about), so it's a good idea if we utilise a lot of public transport. Another example are the multiple-car. You can go with other people to work or to school with only one car!
Cars that consume 1 liter 100 km creates an emission of CO2 of 23,4 g / km.
If in a day all people goes with a multiple-car to work or school ( 2-3 people for car)
we can reduce the pro duction of the CO2 considerably.
If you haven't any person who lives near you and work near your work-place,
you can reduce the pollution adopting the driving style, you have to drive with
the highest possible gear at the RPM as low as possible, accelerate quickly,
go early to the higher gears, to a maximum of 2,500 rpm, and later to climb
shifting down, drive smoothly and quote, avoiding unnecessary braking and changes of travel. Thank you for read my article! ![]()
