My Transportation Carbon Footprint
My carbon footprint for transportation is 7149 kg while the average for my region is 6387 kg. I was a bit perplexed at this, since my family does not travel a lot. I discovered that driving to-and-from school caused the largest jump in my carbon footprint. This may also be due to the 35 km distance between home and school, but I feel that it is mainly caused by the cars that I take. I have two different cars that take me to-and-from school that are about 14 years old. My father's car is a 2002 Toyota Camry and its fuel economy is 24 mpg, while my mother's car is a large 2000 Honda Odyssey with 19 mpg. Most of the latest cars have a greater fuel economy with around 30 mpg. Since we cannot just go out and purchase new cars, there must be other ways to lower my carbon footprint for transportation.
