But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?

Humans Cause Climate Change
Hi, my name is Caiyun Yu and I am from the Environmental Science Academy at Oakland High School. I believe climate change is definitely real and human caused. In ESA I learned that human activities are causing global warming. For example, driving cars release a lot of carbon dioxide that warm the atmosphere. Another harmful thing that humans do is we eat meat (especially beef), which takes a lot of water to produce. Humans are using up earth's resources and their activities contribute to climate change.

I just finished reading on a website that meat and the meat industry is the single largest contributor to global warming. I was surprised because I always assumed the main cause was transportation. I learned that eating meat has a negative impact on more than just the slaughter and possible extinction of innocent intelligent animals. It reduces water supply, pollutes rivers and streams, destroys tropical forests and top soil, produces methane gas, and contributes to several other environmental issues. I would like to agree with Calvin that human activity plays into the whole climate change issue. Even though many people don't realize it, the pollution that their everyday activities, along with everyone else's in the community, state, etc., when added up is quite a scary number and has a considerable impact on the world. The problem is we are too set in our ways to change, many people have proposed change on a large scale and many others would like to see it happening.
The impact human activity has on the Earth's climate is causing droughts and famine in many parts of the world, including my home state California which currently going through a drought. The hot warmer weather and decrease of humidity is creating ideal conditions for wildfires which will affect humans. The increased amount of sot and CO2 in the atmosphere is causing the glaciers to melt which in turn cause sea levels to rise and the increases sea levels will flood many island with little elevati on and that will have devastating affects. Basically the damage we cause to the Earth comes around and hurts us.
amyh-usa I also thought that transportation was the largest contributor. Most of my carbon footprint comes from transportation. Does anyone know how to decrease this?
