The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
Unfortunately, Climate Change is Real and is Human-Caused
As stated in the title, climate change is real and human caused. Climate change is a negative effect from the greenhouse effect. Sunlight is either reflected off of the earth's surface or stored by the earth; when the sunlight is stored by the earth, it releases the stored energy and turns it into heat in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases, such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane, keep the heat created in the earth's atmosphere, hence keeping the earth warm. Unfortunately, during the Industrial Era started in 1750, many greenhouse gases were released into the atmosphere. Climate change is now heating up our planet and as a result, wildfires are becoming more frequent, glaciers are melting (causing sea level to rise and flee to places that are above sea level), and other environmental problems that affect our future generation, wildlife, and planet.
Humans play a major role in contributing to climate change. As stated before, the Industrial Era started in 1750 which snowballed into a much larger problem. The Industrial Era provided many new products whic h helped develop our modern society; however, the steps we took to get to this society poisoned our atmosphere. Today we now use fossil fuels as a source of our energy in our daily lives, but the fossil fuels release large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. Due to the large amount of fossil fuels America and other first world countries use, climate change will affect the world heavily .
Through all these negative results of climate change there are potential hopes to save our planet. First, the consequences of climate change needs to be known to the public and they also need to know how to contribute to the prevention of climate change. We can also reduce the amount of carbon emissions we produce from our daily lives. Another way is to stop deforestation. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, deforestation contributes to about ten percent of all of the earth's heat trapping emissions. If people see how much of a difference one action can make, it may lead to a domino effect of others contributing to the health of our planet.
