The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
The Illusion of Time and Impact
The scariest part of climate change is that people do not take it seriously. Unfortunately, since climate change is such a long term process of terminal impact, many people who may have initially been concerned have started to disregard it. First, because of the long term process, people who understand the actual nature behind climate change still dismiss it. People talk about all of the detriments and problems caused by it, but since most people are not directly confronted with a serious change to their lives in their face, eventually it starts to take a back seat to more pressing (time sensitive issues) issues in people's lives. People think: "maybe by using the plastic bag instead of a reusable, I'll cause my great grandchildren to live in a environmental wasteland, but I left my reusables in the car and I really need to get out of here so I can pick up my kids from school..." The environment ends up taking the backseat. Furthermore, the constant direct talk about the environment makes it seem like its no big deal. People are always hearing about the ice caps melting etc... so much so that they have become desensitized to the issues. Anything about the environment that should seem disastrous and threatening, is just another daily speech, life goes on and people forget. Eventually, people start to tune it out and disregard entirely, because they have "already heard it" and have become desensitized. Progressing, people need to consider the more incorporeal issues behind climate change. It is still real even if you ignore it because of your immediate needs.
Hello Gabriel, I agree with you, people know that the world is going dark, bad and they simply don't care, they are just waiting for someone to make a change, I mean the world that we're living in is full of people that are lazy, or that they just do things with such a bad mode, we need to come up with a solution because other wise we'll be doomed, and we don't have another home. So we need to start making a change and take precautions with these subject.
I agree with you Gabriel, people are always told how much climate change and global warming is affecting the world, and they all talk about it for some time, and then after some time, it is all gone, they forget about it. They ignore the fact that we are of the main contributors of CO2 emissions. And as you said, people ignore the problem because they cannot see, and they do not see how it affects their life, they just keep going. People will not realize how bad climate change and global warming are until they actually see the problem having an effect, they need to look at it in order to understand, otherwise they just ignore it. People do not take the problem seriously right now, but when the consequences come, they will, that is why we as a society need to start being more conscious and caring more for our planet.
