Environmental protection is the main problem facing humanity nowadays. The image of a sick planet has become firmly established in the public mind lately.There is no doubt that soil, water and air are contaminated with toxic wastes. Over the past few years we have been constantly speaking about ozone holes, droughts, high level of radiation, about food contaminated with chemicals. Scientists in many countries are very much concerned about drastic changes in weather patterns. The worst drought, the mildest winter.To solve this burning problem it is necessary for people to combine efforts, to raise safety standards at all industrial facilities, to adequately process by-products of industry.All these measures will help us in solving these important problems and prevent us from dangerous illnesses and diseases.

Not only that, but recently a group of scientists (who later went on the television show on Sunday called 60 minutes) went to the arctic to collect samples of the ground underneath the water. They sent  a syringe-harpoon looking thing down to the bottom of the water and took a deep soil sample. They analyzed the millennia-old dirt and found that the different rings and shades of the soil corresponded to different timelines, where the temperature of the water determined the color, texture, and composition of the soil. In the last millions upon billions of years and hundreds of centimeters of deep soil, the temperature has been going up and down moderately to drastically,  but always cycling back. In the last hundred years, however, there has been composed a tiny, barely noticeable millimeter-sized  ring that provides evidence of the temperature shooting up. With this evidence, the scientists concluded that global warming has been occurring so recently and so drastically, that it was not part of the natural hot/cold cycle the earth has been going through.

Also if we stop now we will still get hit from all the fossil fuels we burned in the 50's. Our temperature will go through the roof. We are going through a "sixth extinction." This a mass death of all life on earth. Global warming caused from humans are killing all these animals.

The main problem with climate change is that it has a delayed reaction. We are currently feeling the effect of fuels that were burned, like Gabe said, many years ago. This essentially means that even if we stop polluting right now, the earth will still warm up. But we still should minimize pollution as much as possible.

Wow. I did not know about that experiment. I find it interesting that temperature and water turbidity/color affects the soil, which adds to global warming. And it is supprising to know that global warming is a recent issue. It has been drastically increasing for the past 2 centuries, but before that there was very little issue. That tells us in the modern world and time, that something that we are doing is wrong, and hopefully will motivate us to fix it. @CarolinaO
