The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?

Global warming is a major concern for our world today. I am worried for how it’s going to impact different regions of the earth and the overall population. Area that I think can be affected by global warming include large aspects of the earth such as oceans, polar ice caps, land, and forests. Some smaller areas that will be affected include plants, animals, and our food supply. Many scientists in the United States believe that the main cause of global warming is the production and emission of excess carbon dioxide. In order to reduce emissions the U.S. government has passed new laws. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council in the article “Global Warming 101” they state, “In 2015 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency pledged to reduce carbon pollution from our power plants by nearly a third by 2030, relative to 2005 levels, through the Clean Power Plan. The U.S. Department of Transportation has proposed carbon pollution and fuel economy standards that should cut emissions through the 2020s.”
In California we produce a large portion of the food supply for the United States and the world. Most of this food supply is from farming in the middle of California. Farming crops do the best with mild sun and lots of water. As a result of global warming there will be a much hotter climate and less water to produce crops. Less crops leads to less animals which leads to less food supply. Per the NRDC “Global Warming 101” article, “In 2015, for example, scientists said that an ongoing drought in California (the state's worst water shortage in 1,200 years) had been intensified by 15 percent to 20 percent by global warming. They also said the odds of similar droughts happening in the future had roughly doubled over the past century.”
I agree that global warming is a serious problem for us today. We cannot abruptly stop global warming, however, what we can do is to reduce our CO2 release as an individual. Here are some ways anyone, as a teenager or as an adult, we can help to decrease the concentration of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.
Use cars only when necessary. Humans have created brilliant technologies such as cars, however, our cars produce alarmingly amount of CO2 into the air. Therefore, we can limit our car use, and instead, begin to use bicycles, or walking as our form of transportation.
Recycle. Perhaps, one of the simplest yet very effective way is to prevent our daily trashes from being burned. We can collect all the plastics from our trash and use it to creatively invent something.
There are many other ways we can impact the global warming, however the following above are one of the actions anyone can do as long as they are willing to try.
