The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
How my carbon footprint is effecting climate change.
Climate change has been a very controversial topic for years. What people don’t understand is that the majority the climate change is caused by humans. Our carbon footprint data tells a lot about our world. It tells us how efficient we are, it tells how much we care about the world, and it most importantly tells about what we believe in.“In the United States the largest individual carbon footprint is transportation.” “However, the largest total carbon footprint is electricity.” My total carbon footprint was 18,265 and over half of it is due to transportation. This shows people that I travel a lot and I don't have an environmental (electric/eco friendly) car. Some people also may take it that I travel a lot, which is true. A single number can tell so much about you, but i can’t tell what you're planning to do to make it better.
I try to be as efficient as I can because I know that the world has a lot of problems that have a lot to do with humans. Something I can do to help lower my carbon footprint is to start walking more. I drive everywhere and downtown Walnut Creek i s right down the street. Another thing I could do is talk to my parents about putting their cars on eco mode. Both of my parents have eco mode on their cars and never use it, that’s something that would help both mine and my parents carbon footprint. Lastly something I could do is have my parents take their carbon footprint. This will make them aware of how efficient they are and it will make them want to do something about it. Below is a link that I got information from about the effects of climate change.
Hi my name is Paulina from Guatemala! I agree with you on the part were you wrote, "What people don’t understand is that the majority the climate change is caused by humans". This is a real statement since the humans are the ones that are increasing the climate change. Each person has to work hard in order to change this problem.
Hi, I am from Guatemala and I also noticed that transportation is the category that has the largest carbon footprint. I am not sure how to reduce it as I live in a country where the public transportation is in bad conditions and the city is not bicycle friendly. I try to carpool but sometimes is not possible.
I agree the fact that climate change is caused by humans, at least the great increase in it seen over the past few years is definitely caused by humans. My carbon footprint was ridiculous, around 32 thousand, mostly caused by transportation and traveling. I recently moved to Guatemala and I can tell that pollution by transportation is the extremely high, at least in the Guatemala city. I do think that you should encourage your parents to turn their eco mode on as even though it will little change, at least it is some change and every little thing helps.
I agree that our carbon footprints do affect climate change because we are the ones who caused it. One carbon footprint may not affect the environment immensely but when you consider the amount of people who live in the world, every carbon footprint counts and affects the environment so we should be thoughtful and try to decrease our carbon footprints.
