As global warming continues to increase temperature, our ocean is becoming more and more affected by it. All the carbon we are releasing into the atmosphere for our everyday uses is piling up not just in our atmosphere, but also in our ocean. Samar Khatiwala, an oceanographer at Columbia University says “Some 93 percent of carbon dioxide is stored in algae, vegetation, and coral under the sea.”  But these numbers have been going down, since 2000 our ocean has absorbed 10% less than what they normally absorb of fossil fuel emissions.  With the ocean PH level decreasing, it is harder for the carbon dioxide to be dissolved in the dense, cold seawater.
    With the PH level decreasing, many organisms in the ocean are having a hard time surviving. Species are being very damaged or destroyed from this issue, which could lead to mass extinctions of certain organisms. Organisms in the ocean that use calcium carbonate to create shells to live/protect themselves can’t create those shells because the ocean is too acidic. Many other things have occurred in the ocean because of global  warming and the ocean becoming more acidic. For example, fish are having to migrate towards the poles more because of the ocean warming. Coral reefs are bleaching because of the warm temperatures.
    With all this happening, why haven't we changed our ways of doing stuff, produced funding or special laws to lower the amount of carbon dioxide our ocean is absorbing, and why hasn’t the issue of ocean acidification been clear to the public. We need to work together to lower our carbon emissions that are being released into our atmosphere and ocean, and wake up to this giant issue that is before is.
