The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
Climate Change
Humans need to change how they use energy and be cautious about how much they use. But some people don’t even know what is happening and need to be educated using facts and science.New studies have shouwn that the world is changing in many ways. For example “In fact, nearly all of the warmest years on record have occurred since 2000. During that time, the frequency of extreme weather events — from droughts and floods, to hurricanes and freezes — have also risen significantly. The vast majority of scientists agree that these changes largely stem from a rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from the burning of fossil fuels.”-(Eight Great Multimedia Resources for Teaching about Climate Change) The earth has recently become hotter making having big consequences all over the world. More natural disasters are happening more often than they used to. Mainly from the toxic chemicals released into the atmosphere from factories. I think that people should make laws against companies that pollute the earth. Why should we let companies pollute and contaminate the wo rld and then we pay for it? It does not make sense. We need to make a change.

I agree, Climate change is a huge problem in society today. Most scientists have come together in a unanimous agreement that climate change is real. However, a lot of communities still don’t believe in climate change because of controversies. To add, all these controversies create lots of doubt and confusion that go around whether climate change is real. However the studies of scientists have measured temperature, humidity, wind speed, and changing chemistry and all these studies show that climate change is real and it is happening now. Also, we know climate change is occurring because of us humans as studies show that the global temperature has increased significantly over the past 150 years and will continue to grow at an accelerated rate if we do not try to do something about it. Some examples of how there have been significant changes in recent history are the facts that the temperature has increased 1.5 degrees F since 1880 and that water levels have increased by about 6 inches in the last only hundred years. If this continues, I don’t what will come of us.
As clim ate change continues, the effects of it will just get more and more extreme. One example of this is how climate change affects the ocean. As you probably know, we are constantly releasing carbon dioxide into the air. This carbon then is able to reach the ocean waters where it dissolves since carbon dioxide dissolves in water. When this happens, the water becomes more acidic and warmer meaning there is less oxygen. This greatly affects the creatures and environment of the sea and also us. We eat the fish that take in this unhealthy amount of carbon dioxide which then made unhealthy for us. Water is also affected in other ways by the climate change. As the Earth gets warmer throughout years, the atmosphere becomes more moist. This little bit of moistening can do so much. It makes extreme weather events more often to occur and more frequently, it changes the environment of some areas which results in the extinction of some plants and animals, it causes glaciers to melt letting their water overflow into the ocean, and is ruining the life of farmers as droughts increasingly make more land unusable for farming. Climate change is obviously a huge problem and it’s about time something is done about it.
Now what can we do about climate change now that we know it’s real and dangerous, you might ask. Well the best thing to do is to give people in education about climate change. Just telling people and proving to people that climate change is real is a huge step in trying to stop it. The more communities that realized something has to be done, the closer we are to stopping climate change. You can tell an economic community, a political community, a cultural community, educational systems, or any other community about the facts of climate change . All the spreading of the world can do so much to help. If you want to get ready yourself, you should make sure you start making changes to your everyday life that help prevent the amount of carbon dioxide going into the air and try to get your community ready to respond correctly to all the changes being made. To limit the amount of carbon dioxide you let out, try to use the least amount of electricity and fuel you can use possible. Ride a bike or walk to places if possible and try to buy energy efficient technology for when you have to use electricity. In conclusion, climate change is a huge problem in society today and needs to be stopped. The effects are too big for us to deal and can be very dangerous for society. Everyone needs to help prevent climate change no matter how small the change. Even the slightest changes help to stopping climate change since all we have to do is work together to get the job accomplished.
