But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?

Climate change effects
The term global warming is no longer used. Why? Because climate change isn't global warming. It's true that it warms up the atmosphere, but a lot of the effects on the ground actually make places colder. And that confuses a lot of people, because they will go outside and it will be colder than it used to be at this time of year a few years ago, and they'll say, oh, global warming isn't real, it's even colder here! But unfortunately that's not true. Climate change does not cause uniform temperature change. Instead, it raises the global temperature average a little bit over a long time. But that can cause catastrophic events.
Already the polar ice loss has been staggering. The sea levels have rose drastically as a result of this, and already the Carteret Islands of Papua New Guinea have begun flooding, and the island has begun relocation. The carteret islanders are being called the first “natural refugees”. Also, with the greenhouse gases, the chemistry and ph of the ocean will change, leading to a lot of species moving or becoming extinct. This could lead to overpopulat ion of some species, and it would ultimately mess up the global food chain, possibly even permanently, which could lead to catastrophic events for the human race and for life on earth.
