Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused?

The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.

But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?

In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?

Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?

No way to stop it now.

I think that climate change is real and a very dangerous thing. One way I can tell that climate change is real is the poles are melting at a very fast rate. We are getting colder weather at warmer places. Also we are getting warmer weather at colder places. Even though it might not do much we still need to do as much as we can to try to stop pollution.

good job bugman!

I don't know if I agree with what your saying that there is no way to stop it, we had speakers that came to our school for earth week and told us we need to to promote change for 4 years and its what we do in those four years. If we can completely change our actions i feel like things could change. I don't think those changes would be overnight but eventually why not?

I do believe global warming right now has gotten to a point where it's irreversible. However, there are many things we can still do to slow down the drastic effects of global warming. According to GREENR, we should discourage the use of non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels. As an alternative, we can invest in cleaner sources of energy like solar panels. We should make cities more walkable so people are encouraged to bike or walk places rather than using their cars.

Bugman I disagree with you, but it definitely has gone too far, meaning that everyone should have been more aware of climate change's effects earlier. I think that if everyone goes vegetarian, tries their best to use less electricity and/or gets LED's, an electric or hybrid car,  solar panels and walks or bikes when they can, instead of using public transportation or even just their non electric car, then we can have a major effect on global warming. The main problem is to get all of these things are expensive, and if people can start making them affordable then it will help a lot. Another thing is just trying to be vegan or vegetarian is expensive.

I agree with your idea. Everyone should try to stop this problem before it's too late.

If we do something soon, we can stop climate change, but the point of no return is coming very soon, so we need to do something about it now.

It won't affect us in our lifetime, so why care?

wingdingsyt

because it'll affect other generations, which will care, and plus, it is affecting us in ways we can't completely notice.

Do you live in Washington?

Anyways, I do feel like there is a way to stop Climate Chnage, and getting the community involved such as us, will make a big impact and a positive step forward

Climate change may not directly be affecting some of us right now, and we may not feel affected by it throughout our life, but that doesn't mean that the effects of climate change cannot already be seen on Earth. For instance, we have already seen the rising sea levels, due to glaciers and the polar ice caps melting - which was caused by climate change. Rising sea levels means cities being flooded and destroyed, which in fact does affect some of us in our lifetime.
Even it doesn't directly affect us, it will affect the generations to come. What kind of people would we be, to live on this planet for decades, knowing that there was a solution to climate change, but never doing anything about it? Future generations would be devastated knowing that chose to let the planet die prematurely.
I personally believe that there is a solution to climate change, and that it doesn't always have to be drastic changes that are made. If the everyone cut down on their meat (beef in particular) consumption by half, much less methane would be released into the atmosphere, meaning that the p lanet wouldn't heat up nearly as much. If everyone made small changes, such as taking shorter showers, or walking or biking instead of driving, we would eventually begin to see a change.
