The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
Climate Change is Real and Uncool!
I firmly believe that Climate Change is real and mostly caused by humans. Climate Change has been around since the dinosaurs and is a normal occurrence in the history of the Earth but this phenomenon that protects us from another Ice Age has become destructive due to humans. The Carbon Dioxide level has increased because of the burning of fossil fuels and greenhouse gases. Even if you don't think humans caused climate change it is still a threat to the world.
I completely agree. In terms of global warming, when we release mass amounts of fossil fuels including CO2 we are creating a layer that allows for sunlight to come into our atmosphere but disables it from escaping. This is dangerous because it causes the world to overheat which can lead to sea levels rising, displacement, loss of agricultural land, starvation, hurricanes, ocean acidification, and a biodiversity collapse. It is crucial for us as humans to continue thinking of ways that we can decrease our contribution to global warming and climate change. Beyond thinking though, we have to start taking action as well and doing our best to slow down these processes that have been accelerated because of our careless actions.
I also agree. Global warming is heating up our planet, and in some ways, we as people have not done much at all. Global warming can lead to the rising of sea levels, great loss of agriculture, drastic weather, loss of environment, and effects on the economy. As a community, we must all change to stop global warming from increasing in our atmosphere.
I agree 100%! Global warming can lead to negative outcomes for our planet, for example- heat waves, floods, droughts, fires, crop declines /food shortages, infectious diseases, and conflict. As our community continues to grow we can stop climate change by- Reduce, Reduce, Reduce. Meaning stop carbon pollution, pull the plug on some outlets, and invest in things that represent clean power.
I agree with you, as well as the others who have commented before me. Human activities have irrefutably been responsible for the increase in extreme weather events such as increasing sea levels, hurricanes, and rising atmospheric temperatures. Studies conducted by the likes of NASA and the University of Montana provide plenty of evidence proving the existence of the threat of climate change. Halting and reversing the effects of climate change seems like a daunting task, but can undoubtedly be achieved through educating people of the problems and taking action as soon as possible.
I also agree 100%. Humans have done things to better our own lives, but at the cost of the earth and our atmosphere. Our need to innovate more and produce more things has really taken a toll on the earth. Innovation is not a bad thing, but we need to find a way to innovate without hurting the earth. If we don't fix this soon, it may come back to hurt us.
