The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
Climate Change
Yes, climate change is real, and is climbing at an alarming rate because of human influence. Humans have made much commotion to the natural carbon cycle by using fuel sources that release large amounts of carbon dioxide. Also we use fuel sources that harm the earths air quality. Deforestation also makes this situtation worse because it leaves the carbon dioxide out in the atmosphere instead of converting it to oxygen. Because of these things we have let the carbon dioxide, and all of the other greenhouse gases build up in the atmosphere and as a result has increases climate change dramatically. To prevent greenhouse gases to effect us, we have engineered electric cars that are powered using green energy. Also is we start using these, we will prevent more CO2 from going into the air.
I agree with many of your points, Tristan. Humans, in general, do not give enough care to the fact that they produce a lot of carbon dioxide. Also, deforestation is really hurting our environment.
Climate change is increasing because of human activity, and people can reduce this very easily in ways that many aren't even aware of. Such as, eating locally grown food, putting compost in the compost bin, flying less, driving less, and turning off lights when not using them,
I also agree, climate change is a big deal for everyone who lives on this earth. If everyone could appreciate the earth a little bit more, we wouldn't be going through this crisis. However, since we are in this terrible situation everybody should help the earth be a little cleaner by not littering, picking up trash, be aware of your carbon footprint, and eat organic and local foods.
I agree with all of these points. But, how do we switch to different forms of energy and fuel without disrupting our economy and people's lifestyles? And, how do we know that people will want to change their lifestyles and change what they buy to reduce carbon emissions? I would definitely change my lifestyle, but how do we know if others will?
