Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused?

The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.

But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?

In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?

Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?

The Loophole of Climate Change

Let me preface this article by saying this- climate change is absolutely happening.  Climate change is very real- real glaciers are melting, real water levels are rising, and real temperatures are skyrocketing.  Yes, CO2 and Methane levels in the atmosphere have spiked up since the 1930s.  Yes, CO2 levels are the highest they've ever been by a LONG shot in the last half millennia (around 400 ppm compared to an average of about 250 ppm in the last 400,000 years).  And yes, since the late 1990s, the global climate has gone up by 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit (about 1.1 degrees Celsius).  But- It's not completely our fault.  Global climate has fluctuated constantly in the lifetime of the Earth.  And yes, we are impacting climate change at an alarming rate, but part of this global phenomena is simply natural heating.  We've had an ice age, where climates dropped below 37 degrees Fahrenheit (just 4 degrees above freezing) that was completely natural- no specific species is responsible for the ice age. Or the dinosaurs.  It is theorized that instead of a meteor, a global heat wave wi ped out all of the dinosaurs instead (At least the dinosaurs who did not evolve into modern day creatures).  As stated before, climate change is very real and absolutely happening.  Humans should absolutely do our part in helping cleanse the atmosphere.  But humans can not destroy what's been created for 4.6 billion years in just 170 years of rising climates.

I agree with what you stated here in your article. It is very understandable that we have done so much to increase climate change in the world through are factories, cars, cities and many other CO2 producers. As well I agree that we cannot undo what has been happening for 4.6 billion years in just 170 years. Finally I agree that a global heat wave wiped out the dinosaurs this made me actually think that this may be true. I say this because 95% of the marine animals died out and a dramatic rise in temperature would be a understandable cause.

I absolutely agree with your statement and about how humans cannot destroy what has been there for them since the beginning. We also are polluting the air at a scarily fast rate. I would like to ask though, what do you think are the main sources of human pollution? What are you doing to help the situation?

I agree with what you said, but I think that the anthropogenic causes of climate change are much more important to take into consideration because for the most part, natural affects are either minimal or being accelerated by human activity. Because of this, it's important to understand how humans are causing climate change so we can work towards stopping it.
