The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
I do believe that climate change is real. I don't believe it is caused by humans but I believe it may be worsened by humans. Climate change is a serious problem, and if we do not stop doing these harmful activities then it may worsen and create a serious problem and impact lives negatively.
Hello,
I partially agree with you. I completely agree that climate change is real and that its impacts are magnified by humans, but I also believe that humans are the root of the problem. If you compare a timeline of global temperature with a historical timeline you will see that in the centuries prior to 1880, the global temperature is almost completely stable. However, around 1880, the start of the Second Industrial Revolution, where humans first started using fossil fuels for industrial mass production, the global temperature started to increase, and since then, the global temperature has increased about 2 degrees, a huge change for a 140 year period. The science behind this is that when excessive amounts of greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere from industrial processes, they absorb and re-emit infrared photons that come from space and bounce off the Earth back towards Earth, holding in heat and warming the Earth. Normally, with lower levels of greenhouse gases, infrared photons can bounce of Earth with a higher chance of making it back to space, due to the fact that naturally there are fewer greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere. Thus, the current climate change is a problem caused by and worsened by human activity.
Here are some graphs showing the relationship between industrial activity starting in 1880 and the global temperature/carbon emissions:

Thank you for your feedback. I definitely agree with you. I hope very much that our generation is educated on this and does something to prevent future pollution.
