The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
The reality of climate change
I am a high school student in Oakland and I think that Climate change is a real and important issue. It is incredibly harmful to ourselves and other animals that we share our planet with. Many people that are in positions of power and influence are brainwashing citizens into thinking that climate change is fake. People are being tricked into thinking that the world is not facing a very serious danger. Something needs to be done in order to educate and help many people understand the serious dangers of climate change and how it is currently affecting out world.
I think some things that we can all do to improve is stop eating so much quick junk food. In the U.S., and a lot in Oakland, many candy and chip wrappers are constantly being discarded, so I think everyone should just try to eat less of them.
I definitely agree. It's important to address the issues that humans have caused instead of turning away. We have already seen effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels, and if we continue to not address it, more dangerous after effects will follow. In my personal experience, websites like this and science class helped educate me on this subject, and I believe this needs to be used in more classrooms around the world. Educating the children of the world on this subject will be extremely beneficial, as they will have to deal with more harmful effects of climate change in the future. They need to be taught how to reduce their carbon footprint, and I myself have started taking steps to doing this.
I completely agree with this. The first step toward making real change is simply addressing the issue. Doing small things like using a reusable water bottle and carpooling can help a lot, but in order to create large scale change we need to get more people on board and active. In order to do this, more people need to be made aware of the current state of the earth and just how big of a deal climate change is. It's important for everyone to do their best to lower their own carbon footprint, but in order to create large scale change we need to make this issue brought to the attention of more people around the world.
Climate change is very real, even if people try to deny it. The increase in greenhouse gases is causing the atmosphere to heat up by trapping in the heat. yes, we need greenhouse gases to keep the world at a viable temperature, but too many greenhouse gases in the air can destroy habitats.
I agree! Climate change is very much so real. It's funny to me how everyone knows we need to make a change at this point but not a lot of actions are being taken to do so, at least not properly. Then again I also feel like repairing the damage at this point is nearly impossible, like every action we take to fix one of the causes makes another arise.
I don't know what we have to do. This site I very helpful in getting the discussion going in the classroom but I still worry about my grandchildren.
