The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.
But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?
In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?
Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?
Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused? >
It's on us
Climate change is real and is human-caused. The Greenhouse Effect, which is when the atmosphere is getting warmer due to the heat getting trapped, plays a huge part. According to https://climate.nasa.gov/causes/, greenhouse gases can be semi-permanent and are forcing climate change. Human activities have been increasing the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, constantly warming the earth. Since the Industrial Age, humans have burning fossil fuels, contributing to the increased concentration of carbon dioxide. Human activities that contribute to the increased concentration include driving cars, large ships, flying on planes, not turning off lights when leaving a room, using more paper, deforestation, using plastic resources, and etc. https://climate.nasa.gov/effects/ - Eventually, regions all over the world will either become more wet or dry, sea levels will rise, glaciers will melt, and temperatures will increase. Hurricanes will become stronger, there will be more heat waves and more droughts. Even just changing one small thing like carpooling, using reusab le utensils and water bottles, and/or turning off the lights when leaving a room will reduce the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. Humans are the reason we have climate change and making it worse.
I agree with this because our decisions on Eart have impacted the world. We caused the atmosphere to fill up with so much Carbon that the plants and other sinks of Carbon can't do their job to filter the air. Things like cars, computers, lights, trains, and factories might seem like they helped us, but they have also harmed us. Burning fossil fuels and using up energy will ake the organisms around us struggle to survive. For example, the Great Coral Reef is dying due to the rise in temperature in the oceans due to the ocean absorbing carbon from the atmosphere. As carbon gets trapped in our atmosphere, it starts to heat things the ocean and other habitats for many animals. We have to fix this. People might say it is not all our fault. Most of t is our fault because we are producing too much carbon and the animals are struggling to survive due to our evolution.
