Is Climate Change Real & Human-Caused?

The ISCFC is all about reducing our individual and collective contributions to climate change.

But is climate change really happening? Is it mostly caused by human activity, including our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases?

In the United States and elsewhere, there are people who are not convinced by the science. But the great thing about science is that we use evidence to evaluate scientific questions. So what is the evidence related to climate change?

Are you or are you not convinced by the majority of climate scientists who say that climate change is real and largely human caused? Why are you convinced/not convinced? What evidence might change your mind one way or the other?

Lawmakers and People Still Refuse to Accept Climate Change is Caused by Humans

Specifically lately with our current administration, it has become apparent that many people holding positions of power refuse to acknowledge the extreme carbon increase and destruction of our environment. CNN quotes the president saying "It's freezing and snowing in New York -- we need global warming!" If the leaders of the people do not believe in climate change, it makes it difficult to make change and move in the right direction. If authorities deny factual evidence that prove climate change is real, many people may be easily convinced of that. That is why it is so important for lawmakers and authority figures to acknowledge climate changes so they can help guide the world in the right direction.

According to the Climate Chat, 6 in 10 Americans believe that climate change is caused by humans. With just over half, it is evident that many people are uninformed. The first important step to reducing carbon emissions is getting people to accept their actions. If  we get everyone to take responsibility, people will feel more compelled to fix problems that they are contributing to.

Yes, you are right. People need to accept that climate change is real before any action can be taken. As mentioned above, political leaders have had a large influence on this. For example, upon receiving a climate change report compiled by 13 of his own federal agencies and more than 300 leading climate change scientists, the current president, Donald Trump's response as quoted by CNN was "I don't believe it." At this point, it's not a matter of believing in climate change or not. Unlike religion, which depends on faith, climate change is a fact. It is caused by the excess of greenhouse gases produced by humans, it is happening right now, and whether or not someone "believes" in it or not shouldn't even be a question. Upon analysis of the president's past comments on the state of the earth's well being, it seems as though Trump won't accept climate change for the purposes of economic and political gain. Over eight years ago, he tweeted, "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." From this quote,  one can infer that the president thinks that climate change is a hoax by China in order to hurt the United States' economy. However, the climate change report mentioned earlier determined that 10% of the United States economy would take a hit as a result of global warming and climate change. In summary, the United States' current administration needs to accept that climate change is real and human-caused so that the country can begin taking steps to solve this problem that has already been detrimental to many parts of the planet, including our own.

I agree with your statements. It seems that many people in power don't see climate change as a huge problem when it is actually something that could kill the entire human race. What is even more aggravating about this is that it is possible for climate change to be reversed but no one is taking huge steps reversed it. From my personal experiance people who don't have many opinions on this issue usually aren't very educated about climate change. What is different about lawmakers is that they are educated about the situation but still don't seem to care. If everyone acknowledged that climate change was real and something that needed to be paid attention to people would definitely be more compelled to solve the problem

Law makers refuse to accept climate change is caused by humans. They should be worrying if climate change will get worse or not.
