Our Bright World
There are many times when I leave my room thinking I'll be back in a minute or two, but i get distracted, and when I get back to my room, I realize that my lights have been on the whole time. http://www.bu.edu/sustainability/what-y … he-lights/ says that if you turn off your lights whenever you leave a room, you can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by .15 pounds per hour. It doesn't always seem like it, but turning off lights, even for just a few minutes, can reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses released into our environment.
This is a really good point! Even in a large room, like the dining room or kitchen, I think we all forget to turn off the lights, not just in our bedrooms. In big, communal rooms like the kitchen, there are normally more light bulbs that can be turned on versus just a couple in a bedroom. I think we should all be a little more considerate and remember to turn out the lights.
This is a great point. In my house we turn off lights right as we exit the room. Simply, by turning off lights you can save a lot of energy. If lights are turned off for just an hour a day this can save millions of CO2 from being admitted into our atmosphere. We can save so much energy by just unplugging things that do not need to be used. If we unplug cords that do not need to be used at that very moment, there could be an energy reduction up to 20%.
If we make simple, easy changes to our lifestyles it can greatly impact our world. Doing simple things like turning off the lights when you leave a room or unplug unnecessary cords can help reduce climate change. Studies have shown that most of the climate change has been due to humans. We do not take the necessary precautions to prevent these things. Without doing anything right now many generations to come will be greatly affected thanks to climate change.
You have a really good point! My parents always tells me to turn off the lights when I leave the room. When I was young I didn't believe that a few minutes of light turning off can solve the climate change situation, now that I know that indeed it is not possible to do it by myself, but with other people doing the same thing then that is a lot of energy that is saved! Every school has an environmental day when we turn off the lights for an hour during the day, the release of CO2 is a lot less compared to other school days, and with every school doing the same thing it saved a lot of unnecessary CO2. A good way of helping the world is to avoid the use of electric light, if it is sunny outside just open the window instead of turning on the lights, natural resources are not harmful to the environment. We live in this world so we should stop destroying it and start protecting it by doing the little things in life.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Turning off the lights can reduce the CO2 being released. If everyone could reduce their use of electricity, the release of CO2 would reduce as well. Every little thing will add up in the end. It may not effect our generation, but the future generations. As a whole we should work together to cause a greater effect into helping the world.
