Heat waves and wildfires
Intense heat waves have become a more serious dilemma as time goes on. Since the year 2000, the hottest summers on record have happened in progression to each other. Those that live in the poorest nation will suffer the most consequences while having almost no hand in this developing issue. Intense heat waves caused by global warming can cause illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. They may also increase the length and severity of allergy season. Other than physical threats, climate change has also caused an increase in wildfires that are more likely to spread when surrounded by dried out plants. In an article by The Union of Concerned Scientists, the author states that wildfires have “occurred nearly four times more often, burning more than six times the land area, and lasting almost five times as long.” This quote shows that the intensity of climate induced wildfires have begun igniting more and more vigorously. To reduce our risk of being exposed to raging flames, we could do something as simple as making sure our city and home safety standards are up to par. Decreasing our CO2 emissions will lessen the chances, but compared to factories our pollution is not nearly as great. Reducing the use of fossil fuel by stopping deforestation will play a significant part in this matter. It is said that 10 percent of emissions due to heat trapping are caused by the demolition of forests. By the way science has advanced, we should use our knowledge to predict and prepare for soon to come outbreaks. Industrialization near hazardous areas should be halted and moved elsewhere as to not expose innocent people to perpetual doom.
The human race is to blame for Global Warming because we are each releasing our carbon footprint and there are many consequences resulting in the carbon being released. One result of the CO2 levels rising is with Earth itself. Because we are all burning so much coal, oil and natural gas the carbon is not able to be released. This means that because of the factories, cars the fuel and gas and our actions from burning down forests carbon is being released into the air, because there is so much of it, it is not able to be released. Because the carbon cannot be released from our atmosphere the temperature is going up as well as the ocean's temperature. Carbon is the major trapping gas because we use it so often says Union of Concerned Scientists. Carbon has accumulated so much over the years that at this rate it would take us a century to get rid of the the carbon build up. Unfortunately even then there would still be about twenty percent of carbon in the atmosphere.
Other than the plant being at risk you and your loved was will be at risk as well. Because of Global Warming there will be more wildfires, extreme weather events, health complications, heat waves, destructive hurricanes, more coastal flooding, longer seasons, melting ice and our military bases will be at risk. There will be wildfires because the temperature increase will make wildfire season longer and stronger as well as the seasons will be longer. Spring now comes ten days earlier and winter is now shorter. Also, there will be more coastal floodings because all the sea levels are getting higher which could put our military at risk. Another result in climate change that is already being noticeable is the health of our friends and family. Because of all the molecules in the air and more air pollution there will be a longer allergy season and more intense heat waves.
Plants can help stop climate a specific way. Plants are called “carbon sinks” says an article on Independent. Plants could stop global warming because they suck up all the carbon in the atmosphere to grow. The problem is because the temperature has risen tremendously and so many of the plants have died as a result of that. Because many of the plants have died they won't be able to trap the carbon in the atmosphere. Many forests can help with climate change, for example the Amazon Rainforest.
This is another example of climate change being the human race’s fault. I think that if we stop cutting down and burning all the forests then global warming could stop faster. This would help a lot because if we slow down climate change by not destroying our forests the plants will be able to suck up most of the carbon in the atmosphere. Another way we can prevent climate change from getting worse is by not releasing so much carbon into the air. One way we can do this is by not driving as much and walking to our desired destination. Also, we can cut the amount of electricity we use in our houses. One way we can do this is by turning off the lights when we are leaving a room.
