How to End Climate Change!

gracesteinmetz

Despite what our American government says, CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL. Because many authoritative political figures refuse to acknowledge the danger of climate change, a revolution is up to us.
According to research done by forbes.com, the writer, Jeff McMahon suggests 9 simple things that Americans can do to reduce the existential climate impact. Eating organic and attempting to cut down on meat and other animal products affect the environment in a positive way. The greenhouse gasses used to create and sustain all animals in order to sell their products cause more than half (51%) of the greenhouse gas emissions (According to WorldWatch Institute).
Another thing to benefit the environment is the purchasing and eating of local and organic foods and items. Non-organic foods have pesticides in them, which are traces of oil manufacturing. Organic foods use no synthetic fertilizer which is not only better for you, but better for the environment. In addition, buying local goods reduce the carbon emissions used to transport them, lessening the footprint.
Also, another s urprising thing that impacts the climate is climate control. Although this may seem like an unimportant aspect, it is the biggest residential and most costly demand. Americans often have air conditioned or heated: cars, workplaces, homes, and other daily locations. Heating and air conditioning may help us in certain dire and drastic temperature changes, but it is unnecessary to keep the air at exactly 70 degrees at all times.
Although these seem like big changes to inflict on your everyday life, try taking them one step at a time. For example, veganism and vegetarianism is a hard thing to do, so it is suggested to try it just one week at a time. Try going only 5-7 days without eating meat, the next week without eating any animal products, and so on.
I know that I am guilty of many of these things too: I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, I have a heated house (only 2/12 months though), I don't eat all organic and local foods. But, as a group of young people we can join together and agree to try and make serious changes to our diet and other everyday actions, we can end climate change!!

I agree, heating and cooling systems are unnecessary in most situations. In cars, homes, and most stores either have heating systems, air conditioning, or both. While having these systems isn't bad because in some situations they are needed. But, they aren't as needed as they are being used. It's much better to put on a sweatshirt than to turn up the heating system. Little changes like this can lead to a big impact!

I agree, there is a lot of unnecessary stuff that we do to feel comfortable on earth. In doing so, we do a lot of damage to the animals and environments around us. Things like air conditioning aren't necessarily needed, but people rely on it so much that it would be hard to make everyone stop. Another thing that would be good for the environment but is not very attractive to most people is vegetarianism. It would have major positive affects on the environment and cut down on greenhouse gasses, and yet most people won't give up meat

I think that one way that we can end end climate change is just by not using more than be need. If we only use what we need and not more than everything would have more of a value. For instance, A "full tub" varies, of course, but 36 gallons is good average amount. For example, people should take a shower instead of a bath should save a good bit of water. These simple decisions will help to stop climate . https://water.usgs.gov/edu/qa-home-percapita.html

I agree, we as humans seem to always overlook destructive actions until it is too late or on the brink of being too late. I believe that in order for people who are in denial of the fact that climate change is real we need to gather ourselves and as a community, present the non-negotiable facts, research, and statistics about the dangers of the climate change. And with this presentation, we need to suggest ways to combat the climate change. For example, gasoline cars and more electrical cars, more solar panels, and overall more natural energy.
