China's environmental crisis

caligraphy

China is one of the largest pollution emitters in the world. In the last few decades, more than 100 million people moved from the countryside to the urban centers, of Beijing and Shanghai. Coal is the most used form of fuel for factories and manufacturers. Even though it is a cheap source of fuel, it is notorious dirty, and releases tons of sulfurous smoke into the air, and can damage lungs. This is a documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU1J_U1NSOg. China is one of the biggest energy consumers in the world.

Developing nations also pollute a lot. India is a developing nation and it's cities are becoming the most polluted cities in the world. New Delhi’s air has been 45 percent more polluted than the air in Beijing for the past few years (pbs.org). The reason for such poor air quality and high co2 levels is, "fossil fuels are still the cheapest, most reliable energy resources available. When a developing country wants to build a functional economic system and end rampant poverty, it turns to fossil fuels" (futureoflife.org). With the growing trends in developing nations wanting to become wealthier and industrialized, I think it's important for developed countries like America and European countries to help out the developing nations with clean energy. Maybe we can set up solar farms in places like India and we can sell them the energy for the same price or maybe cheaper then what they pay for fossil fuels. It wouldn't be very economically beneficial to the country setting up the clean energy for developing nations, but, it is still extremely important if we want to slow down  climate change.

China is very polluted and it's a huge problem with a very noticeable impact on daily life. I've lived in China before for many months and the pollution in some areas makes it dangerous to be there, and that doesn't even include all the other things air pollution could cause such as acid rain, which would then reduce the effectiveness of crops and cause famine for areas still dependent on locally grown food. What has proven to work is regulations and goals set to reduce pollution, especially if the country in question (in this case China) is held accountable by other nations to meet their goals.
