Changing transportation methods

aihpos

Although cars help get from place quickly and easily, they produce a lot of CO2 that is affecting the atmosphere in a negative way. We should try riding bikes or walking to closer places and taking a bus or train with out people would definitely cut out the need for car usage individually.

kaitybird03

I think this is a good idea, but what if people instead used hybrid or electric cars? We can still get to where we need with the same transportation while emitting less CO2.

aihpos

Oh yeah, those cars would be an exclusion because they don't contribute to Co2 production.

nickola02

That's not totally right, because they might not produce any CO2 in a direct way, but if the energy they use comes from a fossile fuel, we still produce CO2.
For hydrogen cars is the same, because the way we get the hydrogen consume energy as well.

I agree that walking, biking and traveling in methods that don't create CO2 emissions is a great way to try and lower the increasing CO2 present in the atmosphere causing global warming but ultimately it will be hard to stop emissions from transportation industries completely. We can develop electric cars and other alternative sources to energy to power cars including solar which is great but how can we stop an industry based on the consumption of fossil fuels that is worth 4.64 trillion dollars as estimated by the sciencealert website listed below? Ultimately nations are taking steps to promote electric cars such as Great Britain who pays buyers to get electric cars giving them discounts but they are unwilling to destroy an industry worth so much. Some nations though conversely are trying to roll back restrictions to the industry to make more of a profit, namely the USA under Trump. Many reforms are due to come to this industry and many predict that when it falls and climate change goals are reached it will cause a dramatic stock market crash and economic downturn becau se of its worth and there are 1500 gas related stocks in the US. The best actions I guess we can take now is what @Sophia summarised above, to engage in methods of travel that will reduce your personal carbon footprint like electric cars, walking, biking public transportation, etc.

Coming from a family that tries to decrease carbon emissions, I don't understand why electricity is so good for the environment. Fossil fuel power plants burn carbon fuels such coal, oil or gas to generate steam that drives large turbines that produce electricity, so are electric/hybrid vehicles actually good for the environment when we are just using fossil fuels and gases anyway.

chrissyisola

I agree because there are so many ways to decrease the use of cars and other modes of transportation that involve carbon emissions. People can take a bus, carpool, or even better, bike/walk. I feel as though people could easily find healthier ways of transportation, yet still do nothing about it. I think that if people knew the real effects we are having on the earth, they would think differently and help try to save the earth.
