North Carolina coastal participants and Hurricane Matthew

hodin

Hi all.  I have been reading the news today and the coast of North Carolina has been experiencing severe impacts from Hurricane Matthew, including serious flooding.

We have two participating schools from North Carolina in this session and both  are very close to the coast: Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, NC and Croatan High School in Newport, NC.  We hope that all of the teachers students and their families are safe!

Matthew was one of the strongest hurricanes in the Caribbean ever recorded, and went incredibly quickly to Category 5 strength just before it arrived in and devastated Haiti.  The extremely warm waters in the Caribbean right now contributed to this intensity, thus drawing the connection to climate change.
