Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reusable bags

nadiaaxels

I think there should be more reusable bags offered in local supermarkets. If they don’t sell it, it will be hard finding one and customers will keep buying plastic bags. What do you think?

I personally think there shouldn't even be plastic bags in super markets in the first place. What they should do is sell a bunch of reusable bags in packs instead of just one at a time, this way you can have a bunch of bags to use and for a better price.

I completely agree that there should be more reusable bags in stores. The problem is, however, that in most places the reusable bags have to be paid for, so why would people pay for bags when there are free ones? I think that, while it may be more costly for the stores, that plastic bags should no longer be used and reusable bags should be used instead. Someone can maybe even come up with a good way to have reusable bags, but make it where the store can save money.

I agree bringing reusable bags to the store is probably one of the easiest ways to cut down on waist.

I think maybe instead of selling them, stores should offer a bag free of charge at least once, and then charge more if you use a plastic bag. I think there are stores that hold that policy, but I could be wrong. I know stores like Aldi require you to bring your own bag to put your shopping in, which I think is a fantastic idea.

I agree most definitely! Plastic bags are a huge issue that need to be addressed. I work at a grocery store, and my store doesn't charge for plastic bags and it's rare if people ask for paper bags instead. I think not making plastic an option at all will be the only way people will either use more paper bags, or buy reusable bags.

I agree completely, but like someone already mentioned people prefer free bags over having to pay for reusable ones. A grocery store here in my local town is called Aldis, and they have a policy where you can buy reusable bags to put your groceries in or you can take the bought groceries outside with the cart to put them in your car.

i think reusable bag are smart and they can hold more then the plastic ones and dont rip and then you dont have to spent money on plastic bag

Using reusable bags can make a huge difference. Plastic bags are used once or mabey twice but usually not more than that, then they just end up in the nature and the ocean. In the long term using reusable bags is cheaper, you buy one bag for certain amount and use it a lot rather than buying plastic bags every time you shop.

reusable bags are really a good thing. More places should offer them and they should be more common in stores as well.

I think reusable bags would definitely help in reducing our carbon footprints. According to biologicaldiversity.org, Americans alone use 100 million plastic bags a year. In addition, every year 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags. Reusable bags would help our environment, especially our sea life. Reusable bags do not use plastic and can be used everyday if needed. Also, instead of giving plastic bags stores and shops can give out paper bags which can be reused and recycled after.
