Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Footprint

When I calculated my carbon footprint, I noticed that my transportation use was way above average. To try and cut that down, I carpool to school and I will try to walk to more places instead of riding in a car. Another thing that I have started to do to cut down my carbon footprint is taking cold, short showers. It may seem annoying to do that, but it is actually not that bad and it has benefits other than just energy conservation (http://www.medicaldaily.com/benefits-co … th-2895240). The cold water makes me want to get out of the shower faster which is a good thing. Another thing I am going to do is eat more locally grown foods and more vegetables in general. In my house, I have started to unplug chargers that aren't being used and turn off the lights when nobody is in that room. My family also keeps our house at an energy efficient temperature. There are lots of little things we can do that add up.

I learned new ways to save energy from this. I think more people should do things like this. Some people don't understand how much of a big impact they have on the world. I think i'm gonna start doing the things you listed from now on.
