Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

The change starts at home!

Honestly, I rarely stopped to think how a person can benefit or affect the environment, but since the moment I know my carbon footprint I realized how I was doing something wrong. In order to raise awareness in my family, and that way we can use less energy, take a shower in less time, walk more instead of using a vehicle and consume healthier foods, it will become a habit, and as a family we will diminish our carbon footprint. Taking this example, other families will begin to do the same, and thus better environmental environment will be created.

By the way, I'm from Guatemala.

I agree, if we all want to see a change in the world, we need to start at home. If everyone were to take shorter showers, change their regular lightbulbs to CFL lightbulbs, ride a bike or walk to places that are in walking/biking distance. Even putting buckets outside to catch rain water to water plants/crops can help the environment more than people actually know.

I agree.  If each home makes even small changes then that will greatly help the environment overall.  It's easy to take shorter showers, turn the lights off when you leave a room, conserve energy.

I agree with you. Walking, eating more healthy, & taking shorter showers would help decrease your carbon footprint.

I agree with you, by walking or riding a bike and eating healthier food it would become a habit and you carbon footprint will be lowered in return.

I agree. If everyone makes small changes like riding a bike or taking longer showers or even eating healteir, we might be able to reduce our carbon footprint.

I agree with all your points when limiting your car uses and eating healthier. Not only do they help the carbon footprint, it makes for a better life.
