Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants or Needs?
Having the latest technology is a want. I get a new phone every couple years. My family rarely buys new technology. I have never got the newest technology. Previous to the class I did not consider the environmental impact of my technology purchases, but now I do:) I can break my addiction by monitoring my use and asking others around me to remind me to not use my phone as much. I could also try to keep myself busy with new hobbies.
I 100% agree with you but there is, even more, we can do to help reduce our carbon emissions. You can also do the exact same thing with meals, new clothes, furniture and much more. For example, you can donate your clothes when you outgrow them instead of throwing them away which increases the longevity of use and causes fewer clothes to be bought and wasted over time. You can also shop for clothes at a flea market. Along with helping the environment, you are also getting cheaper clothes which is another bonus. Flea markets get stereotyped sometimes with having lower quality clothes but I have found a pair of Levi's jeans and a Nike t-shirt there and they were both in good condition. I did not get my first phone until 8th grade and I am currently a freshman so I have not needed to upgrade and as far as gaming systems go I have had my Xbox one since 2015. Just these little things we do start to pile up and make a big difference in the world.
