Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Largest category of C02 emmisions: Transportation

Sllester0906

Human activities are responsible for almost all of the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere over the last 150 years. The largest source of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities in the United States is from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation(EPA).

The category that is the highest for me in this carbon footprint challenge is transportation. I reflected on ways I can change my personal habits to reduce my own carbon footprint. The bottom line for me was to use my vehicle less. I live 1.2 miles away from campus, and 1.9 miles away from my place of employment. Carpooling with my spouse is a option for me, along with riding a bike or walking. Aside from the heat here in Florida, this seems like a simple solution.
