Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint Statistics

michael62

Michael: Mooresville, NC, USA 14 years old

My carbon footprint was a lower average than my region. I had a total of 10,433 pounds. The majority of my carbon footprint came from my home. Even though it was the majority it was a lot less than the average. I did expect the results. My family and I do many things to keep the power and water costs low. I was surprised to see how high the food was. I did not think that a non-vegetarian person like me could cause such a high footprint. I learned that not being vegetarian or a vegan was a big impact. What I can do for future actions is to switch water heaters to solar, change all the light bulbs to LED, and eat more vegetables in meals.

I agree with you, that You should use less power and turn off light when not using them

I think that it is a good idea to eat more vegetables in meals and switch to LED because it will use less energy and also create less carbon
how high was your food? what did you expect it to be??
