Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Deforestation

GZelekSJRState

Deforestation has become an increasing concern, as the removal of trees are taken down to clear out space for industrialization. It is often not realized that the bark, branches, and leaves of trees are actually an entire environmental process within themselves that aid in the restoration and overall health of the environment. The site that is linked below, greenpeace.org, is very informative on what deforestation does, and how curbing this company and governmental controlled issue can create a more stable environmental state. They are attempting to create a collaborative effort to stand against deforestation, making suggestions in a political, personal, and worldly perspectives. I found this site to be useful in terms of information, and in putting the issue into perspective, that it is not something that one single person can solve, but rather a group of people with the intent of making a change.
