In addition to the famous impacts of atmospheric carbon on global warming, there is an equally worrisome effect of carbon dioxide on the oceans: ocean acidification (or OA for short). Here at I2SEA we have a series of resources about OA, including Our Acidifying Ocean, which is an introductory activity and virtual lab (note: now mobile compatible!).
A student suggested that we start a conversation topic about OA, and here it is! Have you heard about Ocean Acidification? If so, are you worried about it? How do you think we can best raise awareness about it among your fellow students and the general public? Have you seen particularly good links or films about OA that you would like to share? What are you doing to address the problem?

Ocean Acidification is destroying our corals!
Ocean Acidification is not a small problem for local seas and parts of oceans anymore, since the issue has expanded and is now a global problem. However corals are suffering the most. They are home to many of the animals that live in the marine bioms and should therefore not be destroyed because otherwise that will effect the life on earth as we know it right now! We all have to do something against it and standing around not caring won't help.

True, coral reefs are dying and nobody is doing anything about it. Act now!!
I think that this is a huge issue that could cause the extinction of many species of fish and other sealife. This is because if one or two species goes extinct it would disrupt the food chain killing many other species too.
This is really true and it could end up killing almost all of our species and ruin our planet
You are right. In Washington we are starting to see those changes
I agree it sucks that our oceans are dying. One way we can help it is by using coral safety sunblock so that it doesn’t kill the coral when we swim in the oceans
This also is directly connected to climate change. Because of the warming waters, corals struggle to continue to maintain life. These things are so significant due too how important coral is to the ocean environment.
