Why is America the one country out of hundreds around the world that has the biggest carbon footprint? It could be that we in America take more trips on airplanes than people in any other country in the world. Or maybe it could be the fact that instead of growing our own food in our own backyards, in America we depend on supermarkets for our food-and some of us don't even know where that food comes from and how it gets there. Or maybe the people in America are just not as well educated on global warming and climate change as other countries are. Whatever the case may be, America has a very large footprint. And compared to the average American, so do I.
   What I noticed about my carbon footprint was that the main category that I went overboard with was transportation. That was a little strange to me because I only put down 2 flights (one round-trip flight) on the calculator, but they of course were flights to the other side of the country and back. I had no idea the impact that two flights would have on my carbon footprint. That really made me wonder about the travel rat e in America compared to other countries. But then, I wondered if flights were to blame for America's large footprint, or if it was something else.
   So many things factored into my own carbon footprint, I began to wonder how we could possibly accurately calculate our entire nation's footprint. But I can't imagine how scientists could be incorrect in saying that America has the largest carbon footprint of any country. Perhaps it is the growing number of people living unaware of global climate change, or maybe we just naturally use and release more carbon dioxide compared to other countries. Whatever it is that gives America such a negative impact on the world's carbon footprint, we need to stop it and turn it around for the better. I know I certainly will do my part to help reduce our footprint in America and help to achieve a healthier planet.

There are many causes to why America has the biggest carbon footprints. Everything said above are possible reasons for the size of the American carbon footprint. Transportation is probably the biggest reason for this. Take a place like NYC or any other big city. They are crowded and absolutely packed with motor vehicles of all kinds. Stop and go is definitely not the way to go when you are trying to reduce CO2 emissions. If more people either walked or carpooled, there would be a fairly big reduction in CO2 emissions. I realize that it may be hard for people to do this because of school or work locations, but it's a start. Flights are also very big in the US.

I went on a round-trip to the other side of the country as well, which heavily contributed to my carbon footprint. Many people in America want to visit countries on other continents especially in Europe, which is a mighty fine distance from the Bay Area in California where I live. All the tourist attractions  bring many a year from all over the world. Those tourist attractions also bring a lot of CO2 emissions to the world unfortunately.
