Clothing Industry
The detrimental consequences of the clothing industry have only been recently understood. As our world is growing at a rapid pace, the fashion industry is growing just as fast. According to Business Insider, "On average, people bought 60% more garments in 2014 than they did in 2000." (McFall-Johnsen 2019). This alarming statistic can be linked to the fast fashion industry. With fashion trends going in and out of style so quickly, an unbelievable amount of clothing is wasted, "The equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped in a landfill every second." (Mc-Fall-Johnsen 2019). I believe that the best way to combat the waste of the fashion industry is by being conscious of where you are buying your clothes from and making sure you are not buying an excessive amount of clothing. Thrift shopping is also a great option for finding clothes as it gives a piece of clothing another life and is cost-effective.
