Meat industry

Díana S

The environmental impact from meat industry is huge. It contributes to land and water degradation, biodiversity loss, acid rain, coral reef degeneration and deforestation. Nowhere is this impact more apparent than climate change. Livestock farming contributes 18% of human produced greenhouse gas worldwide.

I agree with everything you said but it seems like the solution to this problem is complex. I also think that the meat industry is a big problem but it seems as though the best solution to solving it isn't by gutting the industry. From a UNU report on the meat industry, it looks like meat markets are set to grow, but that killing an industry has the negative effects on both job and economic loss but more directly anti-sentiment towards climate change solutions. The area of most growth and current consumption is China, so this also looks like a multinational problem. This seems like the type of thing that would require slow change to work, but unfortunately time is running out. It seems like the best solution might be to educate consumers and emphasize the importance of meat and the devastating risks, who would hopefully chose more environmentally sustainable diets.
