Coronaviruses effect on global emission

JBarberaBOD3

The worldwide coronavirus pandemic has caused many to self-quarantine. Self quarantining is when an individual chooses to limit contact with others to avoid getting or spreading a virus such as the coronavirus. When someone self quarantines they will often stop using carbon-heavy modes of transportation because they aren't going anywhere. In addition, people staying home from work in factories may cause heavy polluting factories to shut down. All these factors combined lead to a large reduction in the global carbon footprint, showing a good side to the deadly coronavirus.

To start off, I can easily say that there is definitely going to be a major reduction in global emissions from this virus because of transportation. At this time in the pandemic, fewer and fewer people are able to travel by plane which reduces global emissions a lot. Not only planes but also cars and public transportation because many people are trying the best to not come in contact with others. Businesses are getting shut down and schools all over the world are closing which reduces global emissions. Food waste is also a lot lower because fewer people want to eat out at restaurants at this time. According to the New York Times, 25% of food purchased out is wasted where when you make food at home you have the ability to choose how much food to make. When more and more people stay at home, it does mean there will be more greenhouse gasses emitted, which also impacts global emission. As this virus becomes more serious there are some ups and downs to how it is impacting our global emission.
