Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Walnut Creek, CA- My Carbon Footprint
My total carbon footprint is 9620 kg of C02 released into our atmosphere every year. The average for a Californian inhabitant is 9727 kg per year. Therefore, I am slightly on the low side of the scale for an average person living in California. I know why this is a little lower than others because I haven't flown that much this past year and overall I don't fly very much in general. Although my transportation was fairly high though, (5194 kg) this is because I drive A LOT! But my family and I always carpool whenever we have the chance. So even though my transportation may be a little high due to extracurricular activities, etc. there is both positive and negative outcomes that come along with it. The negative is the amount of C02 released into the air and the positive is the carpooling part so not that much C02 is being released.
Secondly, I'm not so sure why my Foods category is lower than the average but I believe this is because I eat a lot of organic and homegrown fruits and vegetables. At least that's what I think.
Thirdly, even though I hate the summer time when it's so hot you can't fall asleep I have tried to limit the Air Conditioning to a reasonable temperature and I actually survived. In the past whether it was winter or summer I always had the heater and air conditioning running until I felt it was nearly perfect. But with all the problems our world is having with the excessive release of C02 I have definitely changed my ways. Same goes for the light bulbs in my house. I used to be not so keen in turning off the lights but now I almost always make sure I limit the time I spend using lights and turn them off as soon as I leave the room. Also, for the amount of water I use I have always, since I was little turned off the sink while I am brushing my teeth. But for showers I used to take 10-15 minute showers in the past. But at the moment, I have lowered the time to about 5-7 minutes max. This has shown such a big difference in the amount of money my family spends for utilities. This helps with the drought we are still experiencing and saving that water from showering, we can use it for cooking, cleaning and drinking water. Lastly, for my purchases category it is fairly low and that is what I expected. This is because some of my clothes are "hand me downs" but they are pretty new and in well condition and they are passed down from my cousins who's ages are not far away from mine. I don't receive a lot of electronics. But when I do it is usually once a year. As you can see my carbon footprint is about the same range as any other Walnut Creek, CA resident but there are some differences that makes my carbon footprint not the exact same as an average person.
