Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint of Food
After calculating my carbon footprint I found that food was my greatest contributor. Since I am a dual sport athlete, I do consume a lot of calories but I also maintain the quality of the foods that I eat. I try to buy locally grown foods through local markets or stores. I also try to consume organic foods that are healthy. But, through some research I found that locally grown foods only "slightly" reduce emissions. This came to my surprise but it is in fact true. According to ourworldindata.org, the transportation of food actually accounts for less than 1% of all emissions that are food related. After concluding this data, I wondered what I could do to lower my carbon footprint for food. According to greeneatz.com, eating less meat and striving for a vegetarian based diet can actually cut a meat eaters' carbon footprint in half! This would change my footprint of 3,717 kgs to about 1,858kgs. But, this is also not the only way to reduce food related footprints. These include, using electric stoves, saving water when cooking, and reusing and recycling. I hope to use these points of advice as I manage my food more closely going forward.

I agree with this. I definitely think that eating meat contributes a ton to climate change. according to The Guardian state, that the meat industry accounts for 15 percent of global carbon emissions. Obviously, this is a huge problem. Part of the problem is that people love to eat meat and eating meat encourages these industries to continue their harmful practices. Companies like Impossible and Beyond are trying to develop plant-based alternatives for meat so that meat-eaters can still have the nutrition and taste without harming the environment. In my opinion, this is a very important innovation and it will hopefully help the climate a lot over the coming years.
