Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint and How I want to Improve It

CPugsleyBOD7

I was interested to learn about my Carbon Footprint. Due to further research I have concluded that my carbon footprint was higher than I wanted it to be. According to i2sea, the average Carbon Footprint of a student in California is around 9,000. That is where I want to be. The two highest categories I had were in transportation and home. To improve my transportation totals I can carpool and use and use public transportation more. Whenever I have the opportunity I will ride my bike to places and try to reduce the carbon that is released into the atmosphere. To reduce my home emissions I will try to turn all lights off in the house when I leave. It is going to be hard to change my emissions used at home due to the fact that the majority of the light in my house comes from fluorescent light bulbs. Fluorescent light bulbs produce more carbon emissions than any other lightbulb. I will try to switch to led lighting or solar powered so we can use less carbon in the house. Overall, I have to be more eco-friendly and think about what would be more eco-friendly before I do it.
