Clothing, Shoes, Materials Overall
I do believe that clothing and shoes are a necessity. Many countries, primarily a lot of third world countries, are in a dire need of the materials that many first world countries take for granted. While clothing and shoes serve an everyday purpose, such as not hurting your feet when walking or keeping warm in the extremely cold winter, many people buy these items with an obsession and not for the original purpose they are being sold for. Additionally, many designer brands trap everyday people into believing that they require this new pair of high heels, or this suit is top-notch and every person must own it. There are small brands such as Toms, which is a shoe brand made from the bare minimum of materials. The official shoe website's information page, "https://www.toms.com/impact" states that purchasing an item of their making contributes to people who may not poses the privilege that the person buying could have. For example, one of their programs includes the 1 dollar for three dollar program. For every three dollars the brand receives, they donate one dollar to people in need. Instead of buying an excessive amount of clothing or shoes just for yourself, buy from brands that help other people. This way, even though the same amount of shoes may be produced, they are more spread out across people so it benefits more people than just yourself, overall not causing as much of a carbon footprint. Additionally, it is not necessary to go out and buy these items every weekend, it is important to make the most of what you have and use it wisely.
