Wants or Needs?

Is having the latest technology a want or a need?

How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants or Needs

There is a big difference between what you want and what you need. There is no real need to own a big fancy house or go on many trips every year humans only really need the bare essentials that would let them eat sleep and use the restroom. The only thing is that nobody wants to live with only the essentials people like to live in comfort. However, there are ways to reduce your carbon footprint that would still let you live comfortably. For example, If you don't live far away from your school or workplace you could consider riding a bike that is free of emissions and has the added benefit of giving you a workout. Even if you require a vehicle to get to where you need to go, when buying it, you could try to get a more fuel-efficient model or even participate in a carpool. This is just a small example of the things you could do that would reduce the carbon dioxide in our atmoshere.

I agree! Many people take comfort in having unnecessary things in their lives that might make them happy looking at in their house, or showing off to their friends. I have noticed that lots of people will replace towels, plates, furniture etc. because it doesn’t “fit the theme”. I think that if people started thinking about what they already have, they might be able to find way to repurpose items. At stores people can easily be intrigued by something they know they don’t need, but buy it anyways because of the way it looks. That’s basically why marketing is a really good way to promote companies and products.

Hi, firstly sorry for the english mistakes.
I may think the problem is that nowadays technology is exceedingly developed and are always in search for more even if what we already have is enough.
For exemple, Apple is always looking for improvements for the next new iPhone even if the last one is actually sufficient, and the problem is that people still want the new iPhone instead of maintaining their old one because I swear, it still work perfectly.
People don't consider their real impact on the planet. Another exemple, People whom throw down their cigarette buts just say "it's only one little thing in the big earth" but one multiplied by 7billion people is not a "little deal" anymore.
I will conclude saying that our society push people to consider their wants more than their real needs.

When thinking about all the Carbon footprint the world has used its truly insane. Everybody wants the latest or the latest technology. They want everything new and don't know the benefits of reusing or recycling. Todays society they just want to be hip and in style so they rather pollute the environment with huge gas trucks (because it looks cool) rather than just getting an ecofriendly car. With everything going on today with COVID-19 it proves that people don't care about the world when they should. People WANT to go on a trip and they will because that's what they want when they should honestly just sit tight and not do anything for the year. I will say I agree with sailor, everybody is always so worried about theme so they change everything out instead of finding new ways to reuse them. Its all like I state above a part of style and wanting rather than needing.
