Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Wants vs. Needs
In America, the line between want and need has been crossed. Over time people have become materialistic and obsessed with owning an excessive amount of clothes, cars, houses, and shoes which all go into the want category. People often forget that these things can be very harmful to the environment, it has even gotten to the point where people no longer care. But in this world, less is indeed more. The fewer people buy unneeded things the less waste we will have. The amount of things that have gone to waste over the years is getting ridiculous and it is beginning to take a toll on the environment. If humans just bought what they needed, for example, food, water, shelter, and a normal amount of clothes the world would be in much better condition.
I agree with your statement Sola. I also think that people are buying lots of clothes, cars, houses, and shoes that are not needed and are just things they want. I can closely relate to this because just yesterday I tried to buy an expensive hat from a brand based in New York but was very upset when it sold out. Once I realized that I already have plenty of hats and that I didn't need this one I felt better. I also strongly agree with you about how less is more because when people buy all these different things they want it makes more waste and harms the environment. So by buying less, they are helping the environment which is worth much more than some clothes that are not needed.
I agree with you. The root cause of people's waste is that they are not clear about their needs, and a large number of purchases lead to unnecessary waste.
