Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants or Needs?
Is this a want or a need should be a question people ask themselves on the daily. Whether is it about saving money, eating healthier, or anything else. If more people asked themselves this question the world would be a lot simpler and cleaner place. While of course I'm guilty of buying things I don't need, it is okay in moderation and only becomes a problem when it is in excess. In America we are taught that we need the newest and nicest things, we are stuck in the bigger is better mentality. This causes us to want the biggest house, newest technology, and fastest cars. While these luxuries are nice, we don't need them. We as a nation are so wasteful and our environment is suffering because of it. Rapid industrialization not only hurts our environment though shipping and pollution, it also has major ethical and human rights issues. Big name companies, Apple specifically, have been caught slowing down older devises to push people into buying the latest models. This is not only consumer manipulation, it also is incredibly wasteful.

I completely agree with you Sidney. As Americans, we're taught from a very young age to do this, especially in large urban areas where the pollution is already bad enough. People seem to forget that as long as an item works properly, it doesn't need to be replaced.
I totally agree with you 2. You talked about a lot of points where men still have a lot to learn, Sidney, about the flaws of men in a way. Always want the latest version of a smartphone, always offer yourself the maximum possible luxury, etc. We were brought up with that mentality. A mentality that takes absolutely no care of nature as long as the thing produced makes our life seem better while it is absolutely superfluous! Let's look at poor countries, those that don't have the mentality to always produce "bigger". They manage to survive, despite all the luxuries that rich countries can have, and the pollution linked to industry is much less important. Let's stop producing more just for the sake of producing, with no real purpose except to improve a tiny part of daily life. But does the improvement of this piece of life deserve all the pollution that is intended for it?
