Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How to reduce carbon footprint Post #1

MatthewM-SJRState

Riding your bike instead of driving a car reduces your footprint in several ways. First, the cost to manufacture a bike is smaller than a car. You will also be using the energy you produce instead. Finally, riding a bike won't emit the toxic chemicals a car will.

Hey Matthew, I like this idea you have and I've tried it too! However I found that this depends on the Urban structure of the city you're in. I live about a mile and a half from the nearest town center, so I enjoy the bike ride. But my bestfriend lives like 4-5 miles to the nearest store. So it's quite a workout for her.

I agree with riding your bike instead to reduce your footprint. There are many things people can do to reduce it, like buying less products, eating healthier, using less light source and electricity in homes. Have you ever thought about how effective doing little things can improve footprints? Does it surprise you?

"Have you ever thought about how effective doing little things can improve footprints? Does it surprise you?" Yes I have, the tiny things go a long way. For example, when I brush my teeth I only turn on the water to weak my brush. And I put water in a cup to drink from in order to rinse my mouth instead trying to drink from the faucet. I also recently found out that using a dishwasher is more cost effective than washing dishes my hand. Go to https://www.comparethemarket.com/energy … asher-use/ to find out. more.
