Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants or Needs?
People today use technology or other resources as a want nowadays like the internet, transportation, lights, water, and power. We either use them when we don't use them or use them too much. People really need to reevaluate their uses of their resources of when need to use them and when they need not to use them and even reduce them if they can.
I do agree that they they use technology as a want, i guess i really never thought of it that way.Do you have any examples or reasons you see people using technology as a want vs a need. This is a good idea but i feel more detail would help support your claim.otherwise a very thought out ideal.
@smitthom80@myfitz.net I don’t agree that people use the resources you listed as a want, but they do need to manage their use of those resources better. However, we do need technology to some extent. Now, more than ever, we need the internet to work from home and for our education. People can only stay connected with the internet during this time, and for people with mental health issues, social isolation is not beneficial to them. I am aware of the fact that billions of people use the internet for leisure and non-educational purposes for hours at a time, and those people do need to work on reducing their screen time.
As for transportation, people need a way to travel to places as efficiently as possible. If you have a medical emergency, such as a heart attack, you aren’t going to survive if you travel by a stretcher on a bicycle. When you drive to the grocery store, it takes about 5 minutes to get to the nearest one. If you walk or bike, it takes at least twice as long, and you will probably need to make several trips to carry the groceries you just bought, using way too much time. I suppose we could import food and other resources locally instead of worldwide to reduce how much carbon we dump into the atmosphere from planes.
I can agree that artificial light has many side effects on health and that we often use light too much. But light is essential to road safety and road work at night. It gives you extra time to work and makes things in the dark visible. However, construction workers install an unneeded quantity of lights in workplaces, stores, malls, and other buildings, and with too much exposure, it negatively affects our sleeping habits and general health. Buildings that have too many lights or leave them on longer than needed can either leave some off and turn them on in the nighttime when you need them. You should also turn off the lights when you leave the room to reduce your carbon footprint.
Water is vital to life and is scarce in many places, but we take it for granted. We do not turn off the sink, shower extensively, and waste clean water that other people desperately need. I agree that certain people use water a little carelessly, but water is a need, not a want.
A source of power is crucial to provide energy for the internet, transportation, lights, and water. The internet, artificial light, and irrigation require electricity, while the transportation of goods requires mechanical energy.
