Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

What are some reasons our Carbon Footprint is increased?

Ahmed Mohammed

Many reasons why our Carbon Footprint is increased are Leaving lightbulbs on which drains lots of electricity. You have to always make sure that the lights are off in the room that you are not in. Another reason is leaving the air conditioner or the heating system on when not needed. Leaving the air conditioner or the heating system on when not needed also drains lots of electricity. Another reason is leaving the water on when not needed. Leaving the water on when not needed wastes lots of water and makes clean water end up in the sewers for no reason. Another reason is not recycling recyclable items. Most items that you use can be used again to serve another purpose, but instead we waste it and throw it away and it ends up being destroyed, and lots of it ends up in the stomach of an animal, which could kill them. It could also end up in the stomachs of animals that we eat, which makes the items or plastics end up in our stomachs which also harms us.
