Wants or Needs - Clothing
We buy way more clothing than we actually need to live comfortably just because people want to wear trendy clothing. We also aren’t keeping/using the clothes we buy as long, and both of these things are hurting the environment. The average American person buys about 68 pieces of clothing per year and we only keep clothes half as long as we did 20 years ago. In 2015, textile production created more greenhouse gases than the emissions produced by international flights and maritime shipping combined (maritime shipping is waterborne shipping). People are buying more and more clothes that they won’t even wear that often and it is producing a lot of greenhouse gases. If people just wore their clothes for a longer amount of time and bought more used clothing, it would probably reduce their carbon footprint by a significant amount.
